This Town
Library, situated on a narrow with minimal road frontage, is
composed of a series of smaller building volumes. A stone
clad building portion houses the special collection and its
location both anchors the building (and announces itself as
a public building from the street.)
The structure
of the library consists of a traditional timber post and
beam structure, left exposed to the interior. Columns,
beams and trusses lend spacious volume and warmth to the
public spaces.
The
octagonal shaped space of the special
collection and meeting room is lined with tall
book shelves, and equipped
with custom designed furniture and a playful chandelier.
