    Through careful massing, the addition to this modest 1904 Town Library allows the original building to retain its prominence, while expanding its area nine-fold. Separated by a glazed-link, the shapes, height and materials of the addition are designed to complement, not overwhelm, the historic structure.  
         
 

Both old and new are celebrated at the new entrance hall. A granite-clad stair links the addition to the historic library, and highlights the original rear façade. The old structure has been fully restored, and houses quiet reading rooms, while the addition provides a full complement of 21st century amenities.
